Self-Care During Quarantine

Self-Care During Quarantine

11th Aug 2020

In our last post, we went over some great ways to let your loved ones know that you care during the coronavirus pandemic. While letting your loved ones know that you care is important, it is also important to take care of yourself during this time. It can be easy to get wrapped up in the stress and uncertainty of our world’s current state, not knowing when it will be fully safe to be around other people again, and can be an incredibly lonely time.

In today’s post, we will be going over some great ways to take care of yourself during quarantine in order to help with reducing stress, boosting productivity, increasing happiness, and improving your overall quality of life during this difficult time.

Give Yourself a Break

It can be so easy to get wrapped up in feeling like we need to be productive all the time with being stuck at home. Remind yourself that it is perfectly okay to give yourself time to rest, relax, and take a break so that you can de-stress and recoup. If you feel like you need a nap, take a nap. Or maybe your muscles are feeling a bit tenser than normal, which is a great opportunity to take a nice long shower or a hot bath with Epsom salts. Take this time to listen to your body and take care of yourself, as this will help prevent you from becoming overly stressed and even potentially getting sick because of it.

Try Out a New Hobby

Have you been interested in learning a new language, how to paint, how to scrapbook, or remodeling your half bath? Now is the perfect time to pick up some new projects! The feeling of accomplishing something you have been wanting to do but felt like you haven’t had the time for is such an incredible feeling, so we suggest doing it now while you have some extra free time. Not only will you feel proud of yourself for doing the thing that you have been wanting to do, you will feel much more productive — which can lead you to feeling more productive to begin other projects as well!

Give Yourself a Gift

It can be easy to overlook the importance of treating ourselves every once in a while. Whether you have been eyeing up a new sweater at your favorite clothing store or would love to freshen up your home with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers, treat yourself to a gift during this time. Not only is this a great way to take care of yourself, but it can increase happiness and even promote productivity when you have a nice little change of scenery in your life.

Exercise

Even if this means simply stepping outdoors for a brisk walk in the fresh air, moving your body has the potential of drastically improving your mood due to the endorphin boost you get. Not only does this make you happier, but exercise of any kind also helps to boost your immune system, manage anxiety and stress, and can help you pass some time during your day. There are also thousands of great online resources for virtual exercise classes that can be tailored specifically to the amount of equipment and space that you have available to you.

Take Breaks From the News and Social Media

Another great way to de-stress and relax your mind is to take breaks from the news and social media every now and then. The constant news updates are tough to avoid when they are all over social media and the news, so we suggest removing yourself from the continuous stream, picking up a new hobby (or hobbies), and maybe even consider not posting on social media during this time. The feeling can be incredibly relieving and empowering.

We are all in this together, and we hope you never forget that you are not alone.
